I used the Teacher’s Assistant the whole of the academic year as an English NQT. I had weekly phonecalls at a time that I chose on Monday evenings, although if I couldn’t make one, it could be rescheduled. We spoke about lots of different things, from behaviour and classroom management, to differentiation and classroom resources. Sometimes, I didn’t have anything in particular in mind, but it was nice to vent to someone who was there just to listen to me and who understood what I was going through.
Being such a strange year, with the pandemic in its different stages and the uncertainty, The Teacher’s Assistant was really helpful - knowing I could text or call and hear back within an hour was really reassuring.
The Teacher’s Assistant is totally independent, so it really is just there for you. As an NQT, I valued the conversations we had - I always got something from it, and it was really helpful. It’s a fabulous service, and really useful for people just starting out in their teaching career.
